Dutch arable farmer and strip-cropper Cornelis Mosselman won the national award for most innovative organic farmer or the Ekoland Innovatie Prijs at the yearly Dutch Organic fair in January 2023. At the fair, the partners of the Innovation Hub on stripcropping had just finished a successful masterclass with farmers Roy Michielsen, ERF BV and Cornelis Mosselman, BI-JOVIRA, attended by about 40 interested farmers, when Cornelis was invited on stage and awarded the innovation prize with his co-workers.

The innovation prize jury commended Cornelis Mosselman on his solid approach to change his farm. At his company BI-JOVIRA in Ooltgensplaat in South Holland, he implements five important changes at once. As well as stripcropping with 437 strips on his 49 hectare farm, he has started the process to organic conversion, practicing no-till, implemented fixed paths and GPS, started keeping strips green even in winter and is making his own compost and Bokashi.

This has been recognised as a radical investment in soil quality and biodiversity. “I think we will reach a new balance in eight to ten years. We have taken away the great oppressors, now we are building.”
