Dr. Shima Sajadi Jajarm and Dr. Jeroen Groot from Wageningen University in the Netherlands discuss how to identify areas in Europe where certain agroecological systems, known as Dynamic Agroecological Systems (DynAEs), could work well.

Recommendation domains

These areas, referred to as Recommendation domains, show where similar farming methods could succeed by looking at the biophysical environment and the socio-economic characteristics of different areas. This results in finding hotspots (suitable areas) and cold spots (less or unsuitable areas) on the map. The idea is to match these characteristics with the features of DynAEs, while considering that adjustments may be needed for specific types of farms due to the diversity in farming practices.

By the end of the webinar, you will learn:

  • How regions with similar conditions are found for specific agroecology practices;
  • The important role that GIS techniques and maps play in visualising this data.
